Deadlines are Upon Us

Students,
Soon the flood gates will open and many students from around the world will be reading your wikis to give you peer feedback. What will they read? What will they see? In too many cases, there is nothing to see, nothing to read.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE FIRST: Before you can plan a winning video you need to have completed your analysis in the wiki. I am concerned that there are many sections of the wikis that have no work showing. Move your work to the wikis so we can see what you are doin… Continue

They are mostly 12th graders, one 11th grader. It is amazing what the combination of this exciting election year and our online all the time mode has done for creating "teachable moments"! It is impossible to get political pundits to have meaningful dialogue, but these students have gone from being very indifferent to the presidential primaries and the various issues, to being careful listeners, researchers, and proponents. All but one student will be able to vote in the November election, and most turned 18 in time for the April primary here.

The second most exciting thing we have done is establish "pen pals" via ePals with 18-20 year old students in Inner Mongolia. So refreshing to hear their views of our culture and their descriptions of themselves as "ordinary" when our students are surprised to find some of them live in yurts and wish they had siblings.

That is quite odd. Most students don't have the same taste in music and for a teacher to have it was surprising! The students on this project seem to love to interact.

Madeline,

I am so sorry that I have not emailed in a while. As I read your bio I see that you teach a very interesting class. Could you tell me more about this class?

Australian students have just started a new school year. Normally, I would make use of Year 11's but there is no Information Processes & Technology class for me in 2008. I do have a Software Design & Development class but they need all the time they can get to cut code. My alternative is to try to get interested students across several years (grades) to participate. I imagine I will need to meet with them during lunch or after school which is the norm at my school.
