As Bianca said earlier, we brainstormed a list of "collaborative webs" to help us better understand what is involved in online collaboration. We came up with several websites. The majority of them were social networking services, such as MySpace and Facebook. However, we also included some things, such as GoogleDocs (a crude, yet free and online, office suite, with a word processor, spreadsheet program, etc., in which files can be shared easily) and Wikipedia (the well-known online encyclopedia that anybody can edit).
I found an article that I thought really well discussed what happens when you mix politics and government with social networking. It allows politicians to reach out to the general public in newer, more user-friendly ways. For example, in the article, Sonia Arrison became "friends" with Hillary Clinton - on MySpace. Barack Obama used LinkedIn to reach out to small business owners and find out how he could better help them.
Here's a link: When Web 2.0 Meets Politics.
Take a look at this. I think it's very relevant to what we're going to be doing soon.

Quickly last ITGS class, Michelle L., Joshua Z. , and I complied a list of Collaborative Webs to brainstorm ways that people collaborate online. One thing on our list were social networks. On Wired there was an article about social networks and their application on education. It rated the best social networks for students--but students in this case were being referred to as those that want to meet each other for social purposes. I suppose that they will eventually discuss school on these social networks--as I sometimes do on Facebook.

Note: The Ning was not even on the list of best social networks! Whats up with that?
